New Year Tokyo Walking Tour with Soba making

“Soba – buckwheat noodle” has been very familiar food to Japanese people since ancient times. Because of its thin and long shape, there is a custom of year end to eat soba on New Year’s Eve to wish for a long life.

“Kadomatsu – a special decoration for new year” are displayed in front of houses or at the entrance of buildings during the New Year. Kadomatsu is mainly made of pine and bamboo, pine has been a symbol of vitality, perpetual youth and prosperity, and it’s said that pine promises 1,000 years and bamboo promises 10,000 years.

In the new year special tour, you can stroll around the city while looking at the kadomatsu decorated only for this time of the year, visit a shrine, then experience soba making and eat your own soba.

Start a half-day city tour on foot or public transportation and visit Kanda Shrine. After the walking tour, learn how to Soba making. Enjoy eating your own soba after the experience.
